National Arts Club, 15 Gramercy Park South

Gallery Hours:
Monday - Friday, 9am to 3pm
Saturday - Sunday, 10am to 4pm

Our guild's golden anniversary celebration is in full swing! The 50th Gala Jubilee Exhibition is now open, showcasing exquisite works from our talented members. From classic styles to modern masterpieces, this display captures half a century of calligraphic artistry.

Please join us on Saturday, October 26th from 1 to 3 p.m. at the West Gallery of the National Arts Club, 15 Gramercy Park South for a series of exceptional calligraphy demonstrations listed below. You will also have the opportunity to view the Gala 50th Anniversary Jubilee Members exhibition in that gallery, and a display of works of our Founders in the adjoining Project Space.

The demonstrations will be introduced by our first presenter, Barry Morentz.

1 to 1:30pm - Barry Morentz will demonstrate the magnificent Gothicized Italic alphabet which combines the stateliness of 12th & 13th century Blackletter with the liveliness of Renaissance Italic. Time permitting he will also show how he combines several colors of gouache into the pen, creating beautiful marbleized effects.

1:30 to 2pm - Jessie Fora will demonstrate the lovely flourishing which often enhances the beautiful calligraphic tattoos for which she is so well known.

2 to 2:30pm - David Chang will demonstrate the unique amalgam of Eastern and Western calligraphy through a distinctive freely rendered stroke he has spent many years developing.

2:30 to 3pm - Elinor Aishah Holland, who holds a rare Arabic calligraphy certificate, will demonstrate the hand-carved tools and the fluid, brushed alphabet of this unique and flowing writing system.

May I offer you my thanks for the work you have put into this show and so much else. Also to the Members who have contributed, both work to show and support in general.

In the early days, we all worked hard together and learned from each other. The result was a bond of fellowship (We also had a heck of a lot of laughs), long may that continue. Again thank you.
